Group Exercise Fundamentals
** This course is required before you can take Group Cycling, Group Sport conditioning, Group Choreography & Step, Pilates**
A minimum 8 hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise classes. Topics included are: leadership, trends and media, history, legal responsibility and accountability, class components, music, movement and cueing, developing movement combinations, exercise analysis, and special populations. This course may be combined with a specialization practical designation course such as Choreography/Step, Group Cycle, or Sport Conditioning.

Group Fitness has been around for decades. Our first rendition included mostly Step and Choreography training.
Since then we have evolved and offer many different group fitness certification options. The fundamentals of Group Fitness including how to engage your participants and teach using music is still an integral part of this certification.
Group Fitness Fundamentals is the gateway course to this group of certifications. This course is available both online as well as in person.
Choreography/ Step Course
A minimum 12 hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise choreography classes. This practical based course will cover specific information for planning and developing floor-based and step based choreography classes. Topics include: history of floor-based group exercise, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership and choreography; movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
*May include, but not limited to high, low, moderate impact, combination, step, bosu, cardio kickboxing
A minimum 8 hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise/sport conditioning classes. This practical based course will cover specific information for planning and developing circuit training classes. Topics include: use of portable equipment, evolution of fitness, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership; equipment exercises, movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
This 8 hour course will cover topics specific to leading group exercise cycling classes. This practical based course will help you plan, develop and lead indoor cycling classes and cover everything from bike-set-up and safely to pedaling, cadence, posture, structure, content as well as the physiology behind this type of cardiovascular training. Become a great coach with ideas about cueing, class styles and use of music. No previous cycling experience required. Each participant must be ready to ride and bring a towel, water bottle and a set of headphones.
Group Pilates *NEW*
Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) is the founder of the Pilates method. He used his own creation of physical exercises to help him overcome rickets, asthma, and rheumatic fever. Many of these body-weight exercises took place in his bed which is where the original concept for the Pilates reformer was created. Pilates is now popular all over the world. The American College of Sports Medicine surveyed 4,000 fitness professionals in 2018 and still found that group training is the second most popular form of physical exercise. They also found that specifically body weight training was the fourth highest training mode of resistance training. It is evident that people are still discovering Pilates and it will continue to grow in popularity within the fitness realm. Pilates is a mindful activity that strengthens the body from the inside out.
TAI CHI Leader *NEW*
Tai chi is a mind-body exercise that was developed as a form of marital arts in China around the 12th century. This tried and true form of exercise has been popular in North America for decades. The Manitoba Fitness Council has developed a basic Tai Chi workshop that will allow you to learn the basic moves of Tai Chi in a way that you can easily share them with others. This moving meditative work focuses on basic stance and movements.
