Group Exercise Fundamentals
** This course is required before you can take Group Cycling, Group Sport conditioning, Group Choreography & Step, Pilates or Thai Chi**
A minimum 8 hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise classes. Topics included are: leadership, trends and media, history, legal responsibility and accountability, class components, music, movement and cueing, developing movement combinations, exercise analysis, and special populations. This course may be combined with a specialization practical designation course such as Choreography/Step, Group Cycle, or Sport Conditioning.
Please note that Group Exercise Fundamentals and Designation courses may be taken separately or as a combined offering.
Choreography/ Step Course
A minimum 12 hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise choreography classes. This practical based course will cover specific information for planning and developing floor-based and step based choreography classes. Topics include: history of floor-based group exercise, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership and choreography; movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
*May include, but not limited to high, low, moderate impact, combination, step, bosu, cardio kickboxing
Sport Conditioning – *NEW*
A minimum 8 hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise/sport conditioning classes. This practical based course will cover specific information for planning and developing circuit training classes. Topics include: use of portable equipment, evolution, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership; equipment exercises, movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
Group Cycling *NEW*
We’re very excited to introduce this new certification for Manitoba! This 8 hour course will cover topics specific to leading group exercise cycling classes. This practical based course will help you plan, develop and lead indoor cycling classes and cover everything from bike-set-up and safely to pedaling, cadence, posture, structure, content as well as the physiology behind this type of cardiovascular training. Become a great coach with ideas about cueing, class styles and use of music. No previous cycling experience required. Each participant must be ready to ride and bring a towel, water bottle and a set of headphones.
MFC is pleased to offer a partnership training that will allow you to get most of your Group fitness – Choreography & Step exercise training done online. You’ll also be required to attend at least 5 different group fitness classes. If this is not possible, connect with Stephanie to find an alternate solution.
Once the online portion is complete you may write your exam.
Practical hours help you become a better instructor, try dropping into a variety of classes to test your skills and knowledge. Mentorship is also available at no cost.
