Diet culture is loud. Diet culture is pervasive. Diet culture is everywhere, and it is powerful. Unfortunately, it is a culture that is influential in all the ways we wish it wasn’t. As exercise professionals, we face a heavy and steep uphill battle. We are, essentially, climbing two sides of a single mountain. One side is where we, as the exercise professional, work to reject diet culture messages that impact us personally and professionally. The other side is finding ways to help our clients do the same. It’s hard to tell which is more difficult or if there is even the ability to compare the two. Sign up for this powerful session to find out how professionals can work collaboratively and intentionally to shift the narrative of diet culture.

Webinar-Unblocking The Upper Body
February 22, 2022
7:00-8:30 pm

Please note that this session uses a specialized block. Block Therapy is a self-care version of Fluid Isometrics. The individual lies on a therapeutic tool called the Block Buddy for a minimum of three minutes in various positions throughout the body. Bamboo is used as the therapeutic tool because, unlike artificial materials like foam or plastic, it shares similar density to bone. With gravity and body weight, the Block Buddy is able to sink deeply into the tissue all the way to the root of your issues. The pressure brings increased blood and oxygen into the area warming the connective tissue and “melting” the powerful seal between the layers of unhealthy restrictions. The student is taught to use diaphragmatic breathing to increase oxygen absorption up to 6 times the amount, compared to breathing through the muscles of the upper chest. The combination of increased oxygen, the freeing of adhesions, proper posture and alignment form the basis of the Block Therapy/Fluid Isometrics system.

BLOCK THERAPY to improve posture in the upper body

The technological age has been a great disservice to our posture. Forward head carriage, rounded shoulders or kyphosis can respectively impact the neck, the arms, even the diaphragm. The web of fascia that is weaved throughout our musculature can have a bind of up to 2000 lbs / sq inch. cementing these routinely practiced postures. Daily stretching is not enough to break the cycle or create change for some. The fascia release practice, Block Therapy, can free the tight soft tissue. Strengthening the weak muscles can secure those changes, diaphragmatic breathing can add core strengthening for overall improved posture.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
A brief explanation, characteristics of muscle and fascia on our skeletal system.
Participants will explore a few scapula mobilizing and strengthening exercises, or tests, to compare before and after the fascia release portion. I use these movements as typical scapula strengthening exercises.

Participants will learn how the diaphragm; is affected by poor posture, contributes to deep inner core strengthening and overall health.

Webinar-ABSolutely clear on Core Training
January 25, 2022
7:00-8:30 pm
ABSolutely clear on core training.

Everybody loves to feel the burn, but abdominal training is not the same as core training. The inner core consists of pelvic floor, transverse abdominis, diaphragm and multifidus, of which, first 3/4 are not capable of creating any movement. It is purely by the breath or conscious activation that we can activate and condition this team of muscles. Teaching a bicep curl is fairly easy, they can see it, replicate it, voila! But activating muscles that produce no movement is far more abstract and technical. To teach this one thing, you’ll need multiple strategies to ‘speak everyone’s language’.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
A quick recap of the attachment sites of the muscles will demonstrate the capability / limitations of the inner core muscles.
Participants will sample and experience the sensation when the inner core is correctly activated in seated, standing, 4 point, side lying, prone, supine.
The concept of giving participants multiple opportunities to experience a single sensation reinforces the need for multiple strategies, or cues to successfully teach participants. One way, will not work for all.

Bringing the program to life (Richard Sylvester, CSCS, PhD Candidate)

The session-to-session physical content of a good youth program is just words and numbers on a paper. A program must be brought to life by good environments involving intentional strategies that consider elements such as psycho-social factors, training age, growth and maturation, injury and medical history, goals, and athlete goal and preferences. Bringing the program to life also needs good people with relevant experience, education, desire, intentions and good energy. Good people building good environments can help ensure that athletes can achieve fun, safety and success with programs that are developmentally appropriate, participant centred, progressive, challenging and well-structured. Become Trauma Aware – Create a Healing Practice

Become Trauma Aware: Create a Healing Practice
In understanding how our brain and nervous system process trauma we can slowly begin to unravel the
layers for our own healing. Through Yoga, we begin to re-connect to ourselves,
our breath and the present moment. While there are many paths for healing,
incorporating somatic work, through the body will help us complete this cycle.
This workshop will discuss the latest scientific research on trauma and how we
can apply these findings to our Yoga practice both as teachers and students.
This workshop is open to everyone with a desire to deepen their understanding
on how the body holds and processes trauma. Experience with Yoga is not
required.

Yoga for Healthy Backs – with Nathalie Lacombe = 3 CECs

With 80% of adults experiencing back pain at some point in their lifetime, we owe it to our students to consider the health of their backs in each Yoga class we teach. Taking our knowledge and skills passed “hip openers” we’ll put into practice the stability and mobility of our core and second chakra. We’ll consider the holistic view of finding space physically, mentally, and energetically in order to release our backs into bliss.
