Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses: What You Need to Know

July 31, 2024

Announced in Budget 2024, the Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses is a refundable tax credit to return a portion of federal fuel charge proceeds to eligible businesses – since 2019. In total, over 2.5B$ will be rebated for small businesses.

  • You do not need to apply for the rebate. Based on certain criteria, the rebate amounts will be automatically calculated and issued based on payment rates specified by the Minister of Finance for each designated province.
  • The calculation of the rebate is not yet known. The rebate amount for each designated province will be based on the number of employees in that province during the applicable calendar year, and this number will be multiplied by a payment rate set by the Minister of Finance.
  • The distribution of the rebate is not yet determined. We will keep you posted as soon as the Government shares more information.

Manitoba Security Rebate Program

The Manitoba Security Rebate Program provides financial assistance to homeowners, tenants and small businesses for the purchase and installation of security equipment. The program aims to reduce crime rates and promote safer neighbourhoods throughout the province. Through the program, eligible Manitobans can receive up to $300 for the purchase and installation of qualifying security equipment.

  • Eligible Security Equipment: The rebate covers preventative security products, including but not limited to security cameras, alarm systems, motion detectors, reinforced doors or windows, anti-graffiti film and paint, security gates, pull-down protection shutters and permanent security fencing.
  • Eligibility Criteria: The program is open to all Manitoba homeowners, tenants and small businesses that purchase and install qualifying security equipment after September 1, 2023, on a first-come, first-served basis. The program does not cover expenses associated with vandalism, property damage repairs or monthly subscription fees.
  • Required Documentation: Applicants must provide proof of purchase, installation details and various identifying documents to confirm eligibility for the program. This includes proof of identity of the applicant (e.g. valid Manitoba driver’s licence, Manitoba Identification Card, Canadian passport or Indigenous status card).

Manitobans can apply once for one property, location or rental unit. Additional applications will not be accepted. For all inquiries regarding the program’s eligibility criteria or application process, please contact the program administration team by telephone at 204-945-3725 or by email at srp@gov.mb.ca

Due to the high volume of applications received for the program, it can take several weeks before your application is reviewed/processed. An email will be sent once a decision has been made on your application. We thank you for your patience.
