Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) is the founder of the Pilates method. He used his own creation of physical exercises to help him overcome rickets, asthma, and rheumatic fever. Many of these body-weight exercises took place in his bed which is where the original concept for the Pilates reformer was created. Pilates is now popular all over the world. The American College of Sports Medicine surveyed 4,000 fitness professionals in 2018 and still found that group training is the second most popular form of physical exercise. They also found that specifically body weight training was the fourth highest training mode of resistance training. It is evident that people are still discovering Pilates and it will continue to grow in popularity within the fitness realm. Pilates is mindful activity that strengthens the body from the inside out.
After completing the Group Pilates Course, students must complete both a written exam and a practical evaluation.
