Chair Fitness Workshop
This workshop features two different sessions with two different sessions
over 3 hours

1:00 -2:20 General Chair Fitness Class with Luana Whitbread
Join Luana in participating in a Chair Fitness class
Chair class offers clients the means to:
• Build strength
• Improve balance
• Increase flexibility
• Enhance coordination
• Gain confidence in movement
• Have fun
Participants in this ‘hands on’ demonstration will have the opportunity to review the components of a class including basic set up ( warm up, cardio component, lower body work, upper body work, core and stretching) , equipment, music, and modifications.
Equipment used: Bender balls, Yoga block, Circle band, Thera bands
2:40- 4:00 Chair Yoga with Doreen Wuckert
This Chair Yoga Fusion session mainly involves:
1. Strengthening muscle weakness around joints
2. Working on functional movements, eg. getting up and down from a chair without hands
3. Developing more awareness of muscles being strengthened
Chair Yoga Fusion uses a combination of poses for strength, balance and flexibility.
Equipment used; chairs, sliders, belts, resistant bands, stress balls, yoga straps and bender balls.
Presenters:
Luana Whitbread
I am a registered and Masters prepared nurse (retired) with 45 years experience
in care of the older adult. I am presently living my retirement plan ---training and
teaching fitness to older adults. I hold certifications through the MFC in resistance training,
active older adult and individual fitness leader.
Doreen Wuckert:is a retired French Immersion teacher. Currently she is a Faculty Supervisor at the U of W, guiding student teachers to become professionals.
Also, Doreen is a bilingual Yoga and Resistance Instructor, certified through MFC and Yoga Studios, Toronto. She has taught at various recreation centres, gyms, senior centres and her home studio. She enjoys teaching fitness.
